The Last Guardian
The Last Guardian video game has been so long awaited that when it was announced that it was finally going to be released, many did not believe it! For various reasons there were many delays to the expected release date but now Fumito Ueda’s latest game is here.
Like many of the other games designed by Fumito Ueda, The Last Guardian is a fantasy action adventure game that is set in a mysterious world and involves a young boy embarking on an adventure.
The graphics and physics in The Last Guardian are revolutionary, and incredibly detailed. As an example, every feather of the animal that becomes your sidekick in the game has been rendered individually, and each one reacts to wind and physics uniquely.
In The Last Guardian, you take control of a young boy, who, perhaps oddly, remains unnamed for the whole game. The scenario is that you have been kidnapped, and taken to a massive mysterious castle, and must now escape.
After getting out of the room you were confined in, you encounter a large creature, named Trico. Resembling a cross between a large feathered creature and some kind of dog, Trico will become your sidekick and you need to learn to work with him so that you can escape.
Trico starts out a little hostile towards you, but that soon changes after you help heal his wounds and feed him. In order to escape from the castle, you must work with Trico to solve puzzles and get past the guards.
However, one of the major parts of the game is the fact that Trico is not just an obedient dog that does whatever he is told, but instead has to have his trust earned. Like a real animal, you might have to tell Trico multiple times to do something before he will actually does it.
As time goes on, if you maintain a good bond with Trico, he will be more receptive to your commands and trust you more. If Trico gets into an angry mood for some reason, he will be less receptive to commands.
You can tell how Trico feels by watching how he moves and also looking at the color of his eyes. You can make Trico happy and more trusting by healing him, feeding him and letting him wander around freely occasionally as animals like to do.
The Last Guardian is exclusive to the PS4 console and comes in two editions. The first one is the Standard Edition, which includes only the basic game. The Collector’s Edition comes in a steel book case and includes a Blu-ray game disc, a statue of Trico and the boy, a 72-page art book, a 10-song digital soundtrack, a sticker sheet, and a collector’s box.
